Intuitively obvious

Apparently AppleTV is simple enough for RC. I left her watching Blue while I went up to get Corin from his nap. I came back to her dancing like a mad woman around the living room to Deep Blue Something (the only artist on the thing right now). She proclaims, "I pushed something and made it make music."

Go Apple.

Fashionista

"Pink is the new purple," she tells Chrys. We haven't figured out if this means she no longer likes purple or what.

Where does she come up with this stuff?

Growth spurt

That was sudden. RC was wearing normal clothes today and yesterday (nothing bulky) and we couldn't get her buckled in to the car seat in either car without letting her buckles out. Two days. Two cars. Nothing major, but a little bit of extra room required.

She's leaned back out, too. You can see ribs again. She's got a freaking 6 pack that you can see when she sits up. She's strong. Crazy strong.

Chrys reminded me of something I read years ago that growth spurts can be quite sudden, but man... That seems a bit extreme.

Reading

We've been working on phonics with Ryanne. The other day, we were working on the letter C in a workbook I picked up. This one wanted her to pick the words that started with the letter C.

I pointed at the picture of the cake.
M: What's this?
R: Icing?
M: Well, yes, but what's the icing on?
R: Chocolate? (It was a chocolate cake)
M: *sigh* Yes, but a chocolate what?
R: Cake?
M: YES! Does that start with "kuh"?
R: YES!

It never dawned on me that working to give her a HUGE vocabulary would be detrimental to teaching her to read. Clearly we need a different style of workbook.

On marriage

Ryanne and Chrys were discussing me the other day. Chrys was explaining that I was his wife. Ryanne was arguing that I wasn't; I was her mommy. Chrys said that I was his wife, I had promised "to have and to hold." Ryanne replied that I *carried* her. That ended the discussion.
